The GritLoops Story

Meet Inventor & Founder Brett Schill

GRIT LOOPS Creator, Brett Schill, has always been interested and involved in fitness activities. From sports and weightlifting at a younger age, to a variety of home fitness programs and styles as he got older, he has always tried to make exercising a routine part of life. He recognized quickly, however, that life can get very busy and that weight lifting equipment is usually big and expensive. These things don’t mix well with busy individuals and families who are on a tight budget and have limited space at home.

One day in his one-bedroom apartment, in an effort to provide more resistance during a weight lifting workout, he grabbed a resistance band and used it along with the weights as he lifted. Not only did he realize that this provided the extra resistance he needed to keep progressing in his workouts, but that it actually felt like he was getting more resistance over a bigger range of motion as well.

This is when the GRIT LOOPS company, and their first product Dumbbell Anchors was born.

Brett recalls, “I began making prototypes with cheap nylon webbing that I cut with scissors and then melted the ends of the together in the form of a loop. To make sure they didn’t snap right away when I connected resistance bands to them, I would throw a couple staples in them as well. (Brett laughs) Needless to say, these didn’t hold up very well– but it was a start to the idea.” He was convinced a simple loop could provide a way to easily and securely attach resistance bands to dumbbell handles. The prototypes improved greatly with some better material choice and with the help of an old, heavy duty sewing machine his father helped him get his hands on. This machine provided a way to make functional (and much better looking) prototypes. From there (with some much appreciated referrals and suggestions from a friend) the prototypes were sent to a manufacturing company who helped further develop the Dumbbell Anchor loops and prepare them for mass production.
